The Webresented Platform: WordPress
At Webresented we build all of our advanced sites using the open source WordPress platform. A platform is a series of pre-coded files filled with a series of established functions. These functions can be called at anytime by your website to turn an ordinary static page into a powerful tool. You can think of a platform as a foundation on which to build your new home, although we like refering to it as a 1000 hour head start.
Why WordPress? First of all WordPress is open source, which in simple terms means it’s free for anyone to use. It’s a series of files built by a community of people that includes anyone that wants to lend a hand. At Webresented, when we build a few hundred pages of nicely working code we like to share it with the community as well. Anything that helps keep the machine that we all drive to work on the road.
Secondly the WordPress community has helped build some of the most secure software on the web, as well as some of the most SEO friendly. You can read more about the importance of SEO here and we all know how important securing our information is.
We could go on forever about the benefits of working with the WordPress community but instead we’ll mention one last, very important thing: The WordPress Backend. A lot of time and effort has gone into developing a system to allow the end client a way to access the shiny new website they have just purchased. It’s from the backend (or dashboard) that the website owner can access all of the fun tools we like to leave you with, from updating your news feed or blog to checking your analytical data to accessing every file on your site.
We’re not alone in our decision to use the WordPress software to launch our sites. Other organizations that have chosen to speak the WordPress language include GM, Forbes, Best Buy and eBay. We think the decision to choose the path of many, in this case, is the best decision we could make to assure our website’s future. When it comes to design we like to walk our own path. When it comes to development we tend to respect the leaders in the industry.
